Dawn Chorus, Evensong, 2019

An extended composition based on the translation of spectrograms of observed birds on Lake Ontario, following their singing patterns at dawn and dusk. Spectrograms of the bird song were traced onto a musical staff and played as musical notations. These were then processed for an 8 channel audio installation to create an expanded composition that lasts for 14 hours and repeats every 24 hours. As the composition develops it becomes more and more electronic, echoing a distancing from hearing these sounds in the environment through their digitization.
